BIOGRAPHY
Under the moniker RRUCCULLA lies the enigmatic Spanish music producer and drummer, Izaskun González. Her music is a fusion of genres. Energetic compositions, jazz-influenced experimentalism, abstract beats, synthetic textures, squeezed and deformed noises and layers of vivid imaginary sounds. Through this sonic tapestry, she constructs colored artificial landscapes that evoke unpredictable emotions.
RRUCCULLA’s unparalleled talent shines even brighter during live performances, seamlessly blending acoustic drums with her ultradigital music.
Her distinctive musical approach has thrust RRUCCULLA into the international spotlight, earning recognition from prominent music media outlets such as Pitchfork, The New York Times, Stereogum and The Line of Best Fit. She is already hailed as a rising artist worth noting.
This recognition has led her to perform at renowned music festivals and venues worldwide, including Primavera Sound, Sónar, LEV Festival, Nuits Sonores, SXSW and Ars Electronica, among others. She has also supported top international acts like !!! (Chk Chk Chk), Fatima Al Qadiri, American Football or Iglooghost.
CAREER BEGINNINGS
In 2016, RRUCCULLA made a refreshing entrance into the Spanish electronic music scene, winning every prize at a prestigious national music contest. Since then, she has been acclaimed as one of the most promising young artists in Spain. Prior to her public debut, she claimed to have created nearly a dozen albums, secretly scattered across the World Wide Web under different artistic names.
Izaskun González began her musical journey as a drummer in the Bilbao music scene. She played in bars for various local Pop-Rock and Soul bands.
RRUCCULLA MUSIC PROJECTS
As RRUCCULLA, she has released various works. In fact, six albums between 2015 and 2017, each exploring different musical approaches, including the compilation album ‘Early Sound Sketches’.
Beyond being a creative musician, she also oversees the visual aspect, crafting captivating pictures and collages for tracks and album covers. Moreover, one of RRUCCULLA’s most exciting facets is her unique take as a drummer and percussionist. Evidence of this can be heard in the record ‘Istripuak’, an experimental drum solo album featuring drummer Chris Egan (Chk Chk Chk, Solange, Blood Orange).
With her latest LP, ‘SHuSH‘, RRUCCULLA defies genres with her distinct musical vision, earning international acclaim and securing a spot on the year-end list for 2018. The single from the album, ‘Icy Blue Coral’ reached a million streams on Spotify, a remarkable achievement for a totally independent artist like Izaskun Gonzalez.
Amid the initial weeks of the Covid-19 pandemic, RRUCCULLA released an ambient mini-album titled ‘Rincones Seguros’. She described as “entering a safe virtual reality to relax for a bit.” Synth-designed chirping birds, human voices mimicking sea waves, and shiny textures compose this sonorous journey. On November 27th 2020, RRUCCULLA unveiled her most daring work yet: the ‘Melt Déco’. A EP of three tracks created in late 2019 during her artist residency in Lisbon.
Moreover, In 2023, she releases the album ‘Zeru Freq.‘ via Lapsus records. A collection of 11 sound productions that fuse nature, landscapes and the local climate.
Meanwhile, from her hideout in Barakaldo (Biscay), RRUCCULLA continues to produce music, further expanding the concepts of her unique sound under her own Sound Sketches label.
